LORETTO, Pa. - No. 9 Penn State earned their third straight swept, defeating Saint Francis (25-16, 25-22, 25-23) Saturday evening at DeGol Arena in Loretto, Pa as they notched their first conference win of the season.

Junior Chris Nugent led the offense with 15 kills on .370 hitting, marking his seventh-consecutive match with double-digit kills.

Redshirt-senior Taylor Hammond led the team with 39 assists and five digs.

Penn State out-dug Saint Francis 26-20, with three different Nittany Lions recording at least five digs.

Tied at 5-5 early in the set, Penn State would take the lead on a Saint Francis attack error and never look back finishing the set on a 20-11 run to take a 1-0 lead heading into the second set.
Penn State, who has only dropped three sets to the Red Flash since 2008, continued to extend that run of sets won following a second set that saw Saint Francis and Penn State battle for the lead, combining for 20 ties during the set as Penn State would take the set on a 4-0 run after trailing 22-21.

Saint Francis would keep things close in the third set, leading the Nittany Lions 10-7 as Coach Mark Pavlik would call a the first timeout of the set.

Out of the timeout, Penn State would tie things up at 11-11 before taking the lead 12-11 on a kill from Matt Seifert and a Red Flash attack error, respectively.

Penn State and Saint Francis would swap points until the Lions trailed by one, 20-19, prompting Coach Pavlik to take his second timeout of the set.

Aiden Albrecht would tie the game at 20-20 immediately out of the timeout on a kill from Taylor Hammond.

The game would again, be tied at the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd points before the Nittany Lions finished the set and game on back-to-back kills to improve their record to 5-2 on the season and 1-0 in EIVA play.

Penn State will host Mount Olive Saturday February, 6 at 7:00 p.m. in Rec Hall.
