- Big Ten Release
ROSEMONT, Ill. - Setting a meet record and racing his way to the No. 5 time in the nation in the 800-meters this past weekend, freshman Isaiah Harris (Lewiston, Maine) has been named the Big Ten Co-Men's Track Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference office Wednesday afternoon.
Harris, who entered the meet with a personal best of 1:48.12, finished the Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup shaving off almost an entire second with his time of 1:47.31 - setting a new personal best and a meet record in the process.
The freshman from Lewiston, Maine shares this week's honor with sophomore Morgan McDonald of Wisconsin. McDonald finished as the top-collegiate athlete in the invitational mile with a time of 3:57.83 at the Armory Collegiate Invitational on Saturday February 6th.
Harris becomes the first Penn State Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week since teammate Brannon Kidder received the award earlier this season (Feb. 3, 2016). This is the first Indoor Track Athlete of the Week award of Harris' career.
The Penn State track & field teams will split action this weekend with one group of athletes heading to the University of Washington's Husky Classic in Seattle, Washington, while a second group of athletes will travel to Staten Island, New York for the Fastrack National Invitational this weekend.
