FINAL STATISTICS

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Shots were falling on Wednesday (Feb. 17) evening inside Welsh-Ryan Arena, as the Penn State women's basketball team built a double-digit halftime lead on its way to a 73-54 victory at Northwestern.

The Lady Lions (10-16, 5-10 B1G) shot a season-best 53.8 percent from the field and connected on season-high 63.6 percent from three-point range. The Wildcats (14-13, 3-12 B1G) shot only 38.6 percent from the field in the game. Penn State held the edge in rebounds (37-23), handed out 17 assists and notched 15 steals.

Playing back in the shadow of her hometown, freshman Teniya Page (Chicago, Ill.) had another stellar performance with 10 points and eight assists. Her game totals helped her to reach a pair of career milestones, passing the 100-assist mark and topping the 400-point mark.

Page is just the third freshman in program history to score 400 points and hand out 100 assists, joining Suzie McConnell (1984-85) and Corinne Gulas (1979-80). The rookie ended the evening with 400 career points and 104 career assists, ranking No. 7 and No. 9 respectively.

Sophomore Lindsey Spann (Laurel, Md.) notched 18 points, with 14 of those coming in the first half. She was a perfect 4-for-4 from three-point range in the opening quarter and filled the stat sheet against the Wildcats, adding seven rebounds, four assists, three steals and one blocked shot in the game.

The box score showed another double-double for Peyton Whitted (Suwanee, Ga.), who ended the night with 14 points and 12 rebounds for her sixth such effort of the season. Whitted also added two steals in the game.

Another career milestone was ticked off the list by senior Candice Agee (Victorville, Calif.), as she secured her 400th career rebound in the fourth quarter. In her 113th career appearance, Agee netted 11 points, one rebound, one assist and one steal.

Junior Kaliyah Mitchell (Stone Mountain, Ga.) was the fifth Lady Lion to reach double-digits in the game, notching 13 points on the night. She added a career-high seven steals to two assists and five rebounds.

It is the fifth time this season that five different Lady Lions reached double figures.

Penn State notched a season-high-tying 25 points in the first quarter, thanks to a 4-for-4 effort from three-point range by Spann. Page handed out four assists in the quarter to reach the 100-career assist mark, as well, helping Penn State to a 25-14 lead. A 12-5 run to end the first frame helped the Lady Lions build the double-digit lead.

Defense was the theme of the second quarter, as Penn State limited Northwestern to just six points over the second 10 minutes to head to the locker room with a 41-20 edge. The Lady Lions held the Wildcats scoreless for nearly seven minutes, while going on an 11-0 run to maintain the double-digit lead.

After starting the third quarter with three turnovers on three possessions, the Lady Lions found some rhythm again on offense, thanks in large part to defense. After Northwestern opened the quarter with 14 points over the first four minutes, Penn State limited the Wildcats to just four points the rest of the way. The Lady Lions scored 20 points in the frame, including seven points from Mitchell.

The lead stayed over 20 points for most of the fourth quarter, until a late Lydia Rohde three-pointer accounted for the final margin. Penn State scored 10 of its 12 fourth quarter points in the paint.

Penn State will close out its THON road trip when it travels to Michigan on Saturday, Feb. 20 for a Noon tipoff on the Big Ten Network. The game also be heard over the airwaves of the Penn State Sports Network.
