Fatherly, Kidder Earn All-America Honors on Final Day of Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
Penn State wrapped up the final day of the 2016 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships with two All-Americans as Rachel Fatherly and Brannon Kidder brought home honors in their respective events for the Nittany Lions Saturday night at the Birmingham Crossplex

Kidder, a consummate mid-distance All-American for the Nittany Lion over his years in Happy Valley entered the finals of the 800-meters having automatically qualified for the finals clocking 1:47.76 in a second-place finish yesterday during preliminary action.

The senior from Lancaster, Ohio ran his way to a seventh-place finish in the event running a time of 1:50.29 to claim All-America honors for the sixth time in his career.

Not to be outdone by Kidder, Rachel Fatherly would have a day of her own in the finals of the women's shot put.

Fatherly would finish the competition with a best mark of 17.22m (56'-6"), recorded on her second throw of the competition, to become a first-team All-American following up last years 11th-place second-team All-America honors.

Dannielle Gibson, the final athlete competing for Penn State on the day, entered the event ranked No. 15 with her seed mark of 13.14m (43'-1.5").

Gibson started the competition with a first jump of 12.07m (39-7¼). The senior from Nassau, Bahamas would record her best mark of the day on her second attempt with her mark of 12.88 (42-3¼) to finish 10th in the nation earning second-team All-America honors

This concludes the indoor season for Penn State as they look to transition to the outdoor season as they make their outdoor debut at the PAC-12/Big Ten Challenge hosted by Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz on Mar. 25-26.

The NCAA 2016 Indoor Championships meet will be broadcast on the ESPN2 Sunday, March 13 at 7 p.m. and again on Wed. March 23 on ESPNU at 10 p.m.
