UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Nittany Lion Track & Field will make its outdoor season debut as they travel to Tempe, Ariz to take part in the PAC-12/Big Ten Challenge on the campus of Arizona State University and Joe Selleh Track at Sun Angel Stadium Friday and Saturday March 25-26.
There will be eight schools representing the two conferences; Penn State, Nebraska, Michigan, Indiana, Arizona, Arizona State, Washington, and California will compete in a conference vs. conference scored meet.
"I'm excited to see our kids compete," said head coach John Gondak.
"I'm excited to watch the 100-meters; now that he's had a few months of training under his belt Dan Chisena a 2015 PIAA state champion last year will open up in the event. Anton Porter, who was all American in high school at 10.41 seconds, he'll get to run the 100-meters this weekend, we'll run a men's 4x100-meter relay which I'm excited to see. I'm looking forward to seeing our women's javelin throwers compete, it should be a great weekend of Nittany Lion track & Field."
WRAPPING UP INDOOR
With the indoor season in the books, the Nittany Lions recorded 24 top-five school record performances, including eight school records.
At the Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Championships, Penn State captured three Big Ten titles en route to a third-place finish by the women and a sixth-place finish by the men.
Nationally, two Penn State student-athletes recorded first team All-America finishes at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. The NCAA meet was highlighted for Penn State by a seventh-place finish in the men's 800-meters by Brannon Kidder (Lancaster, Ohio) and a seventh-place finish in the women's shot put by Rachel Fatherly (Williamsport, Pa.).
