Diamond Lions Improving
At 10-12, Penn State is off to its best start through 22 games since 2011 when it opened the season at 15-7. The most noticeable gain has been in pitching, as the Lions' 3.48 team ERA is approximately 1.5 runs lower than last season's. Penn State is also 4-2 in one run games after going just 1-7 in games decided by one run last year, and already has more wins away from Medlar Field at Lubrano Park than it did all of last season.

All-Time Series vs. Youngstown State
The Nittany Lions and Penguins will be meeting for the ninth time on the diamond. Penn State carries a 6-2 advantage in the series, including a 5-1 mark at home. The Lions have won the last three games in the series, including a 15-2 victory in their last meeting in 2014. This is just the third meeting since 2008, as the teams met six times from 1988-1991.

Youngstown State at a Glance
The Penguins are 5-15 so far this season with a 0-6 mark in the Horizon League. Their best weekend was a 2-1 series win over Missouri, but they will be looking to break out of a 1-6 funk over their last seven games since. Gerrad Rohan leads the team with a .306 batting average, while Andrew Kendrick has provided the most power with two home runs and 11 RBIs.

All-Time Series vs. Binghamton
The Nittany Lions and Bearcats where scheduled to meet last season, but inclement weather intervened. This will just be the second meeting between the two teams, as Penn State took an 8-2 victory in their lone meeting in 2012.

Binghamton at a Glance
The Bearcats are 7-14 so far this season with a 3-0 record in America East. They lack a .300 hitter but have six players with 20 or more starts batting between .274 and .296. Reed Gamache has a team-best 17 RBIs along with two home runs, while Brendan Skidmore has a team-best four home runs and 15 RBIs. After a slow start, Binghamton has won four in a row and five of its last six, including a 14-2 win over future Penn State opponent Bucknell.

Blue and White Submarine
With a career-high seven saves this season, Jack Anderson now has 19 for his career to rank second all-time at Penn State. Drew O'Neil (2007-08) is the Penn State record holder with 22 after posting a single-season record 11 in back-to-back seasons. Anderson's seven saves so far this season rank in a tie for third at Penn State with Dave Walkling (2012) and Shawn Fagan (1998). Anderson now has 82 career appearances, which ranks second and is three shy of the record of 85 set by David Lutz (2007-10). Anderson racked up three saves in Penn State's three wins during the past week.

Youthful Lineup
Penn State is not afraid to rely on its freshmen, as it has used starting lineups featuring at least three freshmen in all but three games, has had no less than two freshmen starting each game and has had as many as five start on six occasions. Freshman RHP Justin Hagenman leads the team with a 4-1 record and 1.34 ERA, while freshman middle infielder Conlin Hughes is just one of three student-athletes to start and play in every game so far this season. Corner infielder Willie Burger leads the team with 19 RBIs.
