Field Hockey Has Strong Showing During First Weekend of Spring Play

March 29, 2016

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. ââ'¬" Penn State field hockey wrapped up this past weekend with wins against Temple and James Madison, outscoring their opponents 9-2 at the Penn State Field Hockey Complex.

"I thought that we had some beautiful goals and it was great to get out on a wonderful day," said head coach Charlene Morett-Curtiss.

"Not having that opportunity until Saturday means we have a long way to go, but we did some nice things with our offensive circle play during the matches. Colleen Conway (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) played well in goal; it's more of a learning experience during the spring more than anything."

Friday and Saturday's games we the first time that Conway has seen extensive time in goal, filling in for Jenny Rizzo who is currently competing with the U21 U.S.A. national team, putting together a really good weekend of games.

"What's important now is seeing how much we learn from last Saturday until this weekend when we play Penn University, Fairfield and Syracuse. We saw a lot of versatility in the players themselves and that's always a good thing."

"We need to continue to show improvement from week-to-week as we continue along with our spring schedule."

Penn State will travel to Philadelphia to compete against Penn, Fairfield, and defending national champions Syracuse Saturday April 2nd.
