INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- It was almost like looking in the mirror for the Penn State women's basketball team on Thursday (March 3) evening inside Bakers Life Fieldhouse as they saw a double-digit lead disappear for the second time this season against Purdue in a 70-59 setback in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament.

The 11th-seeded Lady Lions (12-19) built an 11 point lead in first quarter, but sixth-seeded Purdue stormed back with a 22-point second quarter to regain momentum and held off numerous PSU come-back attempts on the way to the win.

Freshman Teniya Page (Chicago, Ill.) equaled her scoring output from the tournament opener vs. Illinois with 18 points -- a game-high total -- and added four assists and six rebounds in 40 minutes of play.

Junior Peyton Whitted (Suwanee, Ga.) posted her seventh double-double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds. She pushed her season total to 256 boards, which ranks No. 21 on the Penn State single season charts.

Sophomore Lindsey Spann (Laurel, Md.) connected on two more three-pointers to push her season total to 65 made triples, tying her with Kelly Mazzante (2000-01) for No. 11 on the PSU single season charts. She ended the night with 10 points, three rebounds, one block and one steal.

Seniors Candice Agee (Victorville, Calif.) and Brianna Banks (Newnan, Ga.) both closed out their collegiate careers. Agee finished with two points and two rebounds, while Banks scored six points, had five rebounds, four assists and three steals.

It couldn't have started much better for the Lady Lions, as they limited Purdue to just six points in the opening 10 minutes to take a 15-6 edge into the second quarter. An 11-2 run closed the half, with Kaliyah Mitchell (Stone Mountain, Ga.) adding five of those points, along with baskets from Banks, Page and Spann.

Purdue flipped the script in the second quarter, outscoring Penn State by 12 points (22-10) to take a three-point lead into the locker room. Page and Spann each had three points in the quarter, with Whitted and Banks also adding baskets.

The third quarter was a back-and-forth affair with six lead changes and three ties. After Purdue opened the second half with a three pointer, Penn State got five points from Page and a bucket from Banks to pull ahead by one point, 32-31. The two teams traded free throws over the next two minutes and hit the media timeout knotted at 34-34. Penn State pushed the lead to five points on a Page jumper with 2:32 to play in the third quarter, but Purdue closed with nine straight -- including a Torrie Thornton layup at the horn -- to make it a four point Boilermaker lead entering the fourth quarter.

Penn State did wither in the fourth quarter, cutting the Purdue lead to one point at the 6:22 mark on a Whitted jumper and trailed by only five after another Whitted conversion with 3:04 to play. Purdue, however, would hit 9-of-10 free throws down the stretch to extend the lead, as Penn State was forced to foul over the final 1:20 in hopes of saving as much clock as possible.
