PISCATAWAY, N.J. – LHP Howie Brey kept Penn State's bats in check as he tossed a complete game to lead Rutgers to a 5-0 victory over the Nittany Lions in Big Ten baseball action Friday afternoon at Bainton Field.

Brey (5-3) limited Penn State (23-16, 8-5 Big Ten) to just five hits and did not allow a walk until the ninth inning, and he struck out seven. It was his third complete game for Rutgers 19-19 (4-6 Big Ten) this season.

Rutgers drove in its first runs on a two-run triple by right fielder Tom Marcinczyk, who hit a deep fly to right that dropped and rolled to the fence after the right fielder lost it in the sun.

Penn State appeared poised to tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth when first baseman Willie Burger (Lancaster, Pa.) and second baseman Connor Klemann (Royersford, Pa.) led off with singles, and shortstop Conlin Hughes (Holly Springs, N.C.) sacrificed them both into scoring position. However, Brey battled back and struck out the next two batters to end the inning.

The Scarlet Knights then added a run in the bottom half on an RBI-single by first baseman Chris Suseck for a 3-0 lead. Suseck was one of three Scarlet Knights to post a two-hit game.

LHP Taylor Lehman (Pittsburgh, Pa.) (1-7) allowed the three runs on nine hits and four walks with one strikeout.

Centerfielder Jawuan Harris and second baseman John Jennings added RBI-singles in the seventh.

Penn State and Rutgers will continue the series Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
