COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The No. 8 Penn State women's lacrosse team was unable to overcome a 5-0 run midway through the game as No. 18 Ohio State won the Big Ten clash, 16-13, at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on Saturday. Sophomore Katie O'Donnell (West Chester, Pa.) scored four times, matching her career high. Madison Cyr (Westminster, Md.) tallied four points (2g, 2a) as well.

Tied 5-5 with 14 minutes to play in the first, Ohio State (11-1, 2-0 Big Ten) rattled off five straight goals spanning halftime for an insurmountable lead. Penn State (9-3, 1-1 Big Ten) made a second-half run, scoring four straight times to pull within two, but could get no closer in just the program's sixth loss all-time to the Buckeyes in 25 meetings.

Madison Carter (Davidsonville, Md.), the reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Week, scored her fifth hat trick of the season. Carter has scored in all 12 contests to start her collegiate career and now has 30 goals this season.

Steph Lazo (Stevensville, Md.) scored two goals and added an assist for a three-point day. Jenna Mosketti (Fallston, Md.) joined Lazo to round out the quintet of Nittany Lions who scored goals on the afternoon. Freshman Kelly Daggett (Bainbridge, Pa.) dished two assists.

In net, Emi Smith (Denver, Colo.) made nine saves and picked up four ground balls. Six of her nine saves came in the first half.

For Ohio State, Rainey Hodgson had eight points split evenly between goals and assists. Cian Dambrowski added four goals and three assists for the Buckeyes. Goalie Katie Frederick had 13 saves, including eight in the second half, to earn the victory.

Penn State held a 36-30 edge in shots, including a decisive 22-12 margin in the second half. Penn State went 2-for-6 on free-position shots, while the Buckeyes were 0-for-2.

Saturday's game was the eight straight meeting between the two teams that was decided by three goals or less. Ohio State won for just the second time in those last eight games.

GAME NOTES
- Madison Cyr has scored in every game this season and is currently on a 21-game scoring streak dating back to last year. This season, Cyr has tallied at least two points in every game and has eight hat tricks.

- Cyr's two goals bring her career total to 134, which has her in sole position for 12th all-time at Penn State. Cyr already has 11 assists this season, which is a career high for a single-season. She is six points away from cracking the all-time PSU list (173, Diane Whipple, 1987-90).
