2016 IWLCA All-Americans

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State women's lacrosse has multiple IWLCA All-Americans for a fifth straight year as senior midfielder Madison Cyr (Westminster, Md.) and Steph Lazo (Stevensville, Md.) earned spots on the second and third teams, respectively, on Wednesday afternoon.

Cyr and Lazo represent Penn State's 94th and 95th All-Americans. Under head coach Missy Doherty, Penn State has seen 13 Nittany Lions earn All-America status since 2012.

Cyr, a unanimous All-Big Ten and Tewaaraton Award nominee, is an All-American for the second time after her third-team honor as a sophomore in 2014. Cyr leads the team in goals (55), points (76), shots (123), ground balls (33) and caused turnovers (37). Cyr has scored in every game this season and is currently on a 28-game scoring streak dating back to last year.

The versatile midfielder out of Maryland ranks in the top 20 nationally in points per game (16th), goals per game (17th) and caused turnovers per game (18th).

This season, Cyr has tallied at least two points in every game and has 12 hat tricks. Cyr's 55 goals are the most by a Nittany Lion since 1990 (62, Diane Whipple, 1990). Cyr had a six-point outing in Penn State's 14-13 overtime thriller at No. 2 Florida to earn a spot in the NCAA Quarterfinals this Saturday against seventh-seeded Penn. The Lions will host the Quakers at Noon with a spot in the NCAA Semifinals on the line.

Lazo, the Big Ten leader in assists per game (1.95), became an All-American for the first time on Wednesday. Lazo is Penn State's key distributor with a career-high 37 assists, while tossing in 32 goals for a 69-point season. Lazo has 119 points in her last 38 games played.

Lazo totaled 11 points this past weekend to aid the Nittany Lions' advancement to their fourth NCAA Quarterfinal in the past five seasons. Lazo matched her career-high with seven points (4g, 3a) vs. Winthrop on Friday and then added four points on a trio of assists and the game-winning goal on her only shot of the game. Her game-winner was the sixth of her career.

The Nittany Lions (13-6) will look to reach their 10th NCAA Semifinals when they host seventh-seeded Penn on Saturday afternoon inside Penn State Lacrosse Field. Opening draw is set for Noon with free streaming coverage on BTN2Go for everyone.

Tickets to the game are available by visiting the Bryce Jordan Center Ticket Office during normal business hours (Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.) or by calling 1-800-NITTANY. Admission prices are $8 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under, PSU and Penn students with valid ID, $3 for groups of 20 or more (advance sales only).
