UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The 11th-ranked Nittany Lion women's lacrosse team looks to be the first Penn State team to reach the NCAA Semifinals since 1999 when it hosts seventh-seeded and 14th-ranked Penn on Saturday. Opening draw at Penn State Lacrosse Field is set for Noon with free live streaming on BTN2Go for computer, tablet and mobile devices.

LIONS RETURN TO THE NCAA QUARTERS
For the fourth time in five years, Penn State is in the NCAA Quarterfinals. Of this year's final eight, only Penn State, Maryland, North Carolina and Syracuse have been to at least four quarterfinals with the latter three making five appearances.

Penn State is in the NCAA Tournament for the fifth straight year and 22nd time in the tournament's 34-year history.

Penn State's 20 games won and 39 games played rank seventh in the tournament's history.

Penn State's 22 appearances ranks fourth all-time behind only Maryland (31), Virginia (29) and Princeton (24). PSU is one of just six programs to have won multiple national titles.

The Nittany Lions join a short list of six programs that have won three overtime games in the NCAA Tournament.

NITTANY LIONS DELIVER KNOCK OUT BLOW
It was a game that had everything: 10 tie scores, 11 lead changes, a seven-minute stall, a goal-line clearance, an illegal stick penalty in overtime, timely saves and an upset. In the end, Penn State topped No. 2 Florida, 14-13, in overtime.

Penn State received a career-high five goals from Katie O'Donnell, six points from Madison Cyr (4g, 3a) and four points from Steph Lazo (1g, 3a).

Lazo scored the game-winning goal on her first shot of the day, assisted by Lazo, who received a long outlet pass from O'Donnell after her key draw control win.

Emi Smith made nine saves, seven of which came after halftime, to stymie the potent Florida attack. Smith's most important saves came in the dying minutes of regulation, once on Lindsey Ronbeck's free-position chance with 17 seconds left and another on Sydney Pirreca's last-second chance that hit the post and rolled along the goal line. Smith's final save came on another Pirecca chance in an overtime woman-up situation.

Penn State was 0-5 in Florida before last weekend, winning both games with 30 goals scored, the most since 1999 when PSU tallied 32 vs. West Chester (23) and Princeton (9) en route to its last NCAA Semifinals appearance.

ABOUT THE QUAKERS
The seventh-seeded and 14th-ranked Penn Quakers (15-4) have won nine of their last 10 entering Saturday's game.

Last week, the Quakers went on the road to Towson and wiped the field with a 17-7 win over Wagner and a 12-4 victory over the host Tigers. Penn had not won a game by more than seven goals all season prior to pulling the feat twice within three days last weekend.

Penn is an identical 7-2 at home and on the road. Penn has not lost a road game since March 27 at Dartmouth.

The Quakers average 10.79 goals per game, which ranks 43rd nationally. Penn concedes just 7.89 goals per game, which is 17th in the country. Penn's scoring margin of 2.89 is 21st nationally.

The Quakers take good care of the call, committing the third fewest turnovers per game in the country (10.53).

Penn's balanced offense features eight 20+ point scorers, led by facilitator Nina Corcoran, the NCAA's leading assister with 58 helpers. Corcoran has 85 points and is followed by Iris Williamson (46) and Alex Condon (44).

Goalkeeper Britt Brown has started 17 games with a .494 save percentage (13th nationally) and a 7.12 GAA (9th nationally).

PLAYER PREVIEW INTERVIEWS

NITTANY LIONS LOOK TO KEEP WINNING WAYS VS. KEYSTONE STATE RIVALS
Penn State has an outstanding record against Pennsylvania Division I foes: 101-21 (.828)

The Nittany Lions have won 29 straight games against in-state rivals including the first two this season. Penn State's last loss to a Keystone State team was March 18, 2009 vs. No. 3 Penn, 9-6.

PSU has perfect marks against four teams: Bucknell (19-0), Drexel (5-0), Duquesne (5-0) and Lehigh (24-0). Lions are also 22-2 against Lafayette, 9-6 vs. Penn and 16-13 against Temple.

CYR, LAZO PICK UP ALL-AMERICA HONORS
Penn State has multiple IWLCA All-Americans for a fifth straight year as Madison Cyr and Steph Lazo earned spots on the second and third teams, respectively, on Wednesday afternoon.

Cyr and Lazo represent Penn State's 94th and 95th All-Americans. Under head coach Missy Doherty, Penn State has seen 13 Nittany Lions earn All-America status since 2012.

O'DONNELL TABBED EPOCH/LM NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Midfielder Katie O'Donnell was tabbed the Epoch/Lacrosse Magazine National Player of the Week for her performances this past week in a pair of NCAA Tournament wins.

O'Donnell tallied a total of eight goals, scoring a hat trick in Friday's 16-6 win over Winthrop and supplying a career-high five goals in an upset over No. 2 Florida on Sunday.

CYR GETTING IT DONE ON BOTH SIDES
Penn State senior midfielder Madison Cyr leads the team in goals (55), points (76), shots (123), ground balls (33) and caused turnovers (37).

Entering the week, Cyr ranks second in the Big Ten in goals and ranks 12th nationally. Cyr's 1.95 caused turnovers per game are second in the conference only to two-time Tewaaraton Award winner Taylor Cummings of Maryland. Cyr is 18th nationally.

Cyr has scored in every game this season and is currently on a 28-game scoring streak dating back to last year. This season, Cyr has tallied at least two points in every game and has 11 hat tricks.

Cyr's four goals at Florida brought her career total to 152 for sixth all-time at Penn State. She sits one goal behind Laurie Gray (1981-84) for fifth and two behind Shannon Duffey (1975-78) for fourth.

Cyr's six points brought her career total to 195 to move into 13th all-time at PSU. Cyr has a career-high 76 points this season.

LAZO PASSING THE ROCK
Junior attack Steph Lazo is leading the Big Ten in assists (37), which ranks ninth nationally. Lazo had nine assists all of last season.

Lazo ranks 12th nationally in assists per game (1.95) and 30th in points per game (3.63).

All of Lazo's assists have come since the beginning of March after not providing a helper in the first three games of the season. She has averages 2.31 assists per game since March 2, which would rank her sixth nationally.

Lazo has six games with three or more assists. Four of those games have come in the last five outings.

SCORE A GOAL, CONTROL THE BALL
Penn State has ranked among the top 15 teams all season in goals per game and draw controls. PSU averages 13.11 goals per game, which is 10th best in the nation, while pulling down 13.58 draws a game, which ranks eighth nationally.

The Nittany Lions boast a pair in the top 46 nationally in draw controls per game: Jenna Mosketti (3.68) and Madison Carter (3.21).

PSU is also 12th in the country in caused turnovers per game (10.21). The Lions lead the Big Ten.

FIVE LIONS NAMED IWLCA ALL-REGION
The 2016 IWLCA All-Region selections were announced on May 13 and Penn State earned five honorees.

Madison Cyr and Steph Lazo earned first-team spots in the West/Midwest region.

Jenna Mosketti, Abby Smucker and Madison Carter landed on the second team.

The Nittany Lions have at least five IWLCA All-Region honorees for a fifth time since the all-region teams began, which was in 2005. Mosketti became just the second Nittany Lion to earn four All-Region honors, joining Jessi Lieb (2005-08) as the other.

CARTER NABS B1G FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR
Attacker Madison Carter was recognized as the Big Ten Freshman of the Year on May 9 by the conference coaches. Carter is the first Nittany Lion to earn a league freshman of the year honor.

Carter, who is having one of the best freshman seasons in school history, was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week a season-high five times. The rookie out of Maryland has 45 goals, which is seventh in the conference.

Carter's 2.37 goals per game is fourth overall in the nation among rookies and first among all freshmen playing in the NCAA Tournament.

Carter's outstanding season has seen her score in 18 of Penn State's 19 games this season, registering at least three goals on eight occasions. Carter has scored four goals on five occasions and notched a career-high six goals at James Madison (March 9), which earned her national and Big Ten player and freshman of the week honors.

Carter has a total of 49 points this season and 61 draw controls, which is second best on the Nittany Lion squad. A career-high nine draw controls vs. Northwestern on April 23 helped lead the Nittany Lions to a crucial 17-13 victory. Carter averaged 3.21 draws per game, which ranks fifth overall in the Big Ten.

SIX LIONS GARNER ALL-BIG TEN HONORS
The 2016 All-Big Ten selections were announced on May 4 and Penn State garnered six spots.

Madison Cyr and Abby Smucker became two-time All-Big Ten honorees and were both unanimous selections.

Cyr and Smucker were joined by Madison Carter, Jenna Mosketti, Steph Lazo and Katie O'Donnell. Penn State and Maryland each had six players honored. The six all-conference honors match that of the 2003 team when Penn State had six All-ALC selections.

CYR NAMED A TEWAARATON NOMINEE
Penn State senior standout Madison Cyr was named a nominee for the Tewaaraton Award as one of the top 25 players in college lacrosse on April 29.

Cyr is a first-time nominee and represents the fifth Nittany Lion woman to be among the top 25 nominees. Cyr represents the fourth occasion an athlete under head coach Missy Doherty's tutelage as a nominee joining Dana Cahill (2012) and Maggie McCormick (2013, 2015).

PENN STATE PICKED SECOND IN THE B1G
Penn State was voted second in the Big Ten preseason coaches' poll on Feb. 1 behind defending national champion Maryland.

The Nittany Lions finished second in 2015 with a 4-1 mark with the lone blemish coming at Maryland in the regular-season finale. Penn State went on to win the inaugural Big Ten Tournament.

THE CAPTAINS' CREW
Penn State will be crewed by four captains this season, led by senior Erika Spilker for a second straight season. Fellow classmates Jenna Mosketti and Ally Heavens join Spilker, as does junior Abby Smucker.

The winner of Saturday's game heads to Chester's Talen Energy Stadium, site of the semifinals and final.
