May 29, 2016

CHESTER, Pa. ââ'¬" A pair of Penn State women's lacrosse senior standouts were recognized on Sunday afternoon for their performances during the NCAA Tournament. Madison Cyr (Westminster, Md.) and Jenna Mosketti (Fallston, Md.) earned spots on the NCAA All-Championship Team.

Cyr, who finished with a tournament-high 18 points on 11 goals and seven assists over four games, was outstanding all tournament long. Cyr tallied at least three points in every tournament game as she led the Nittany Lions to the National Semifinals.

Cyr wasn't just an offensive force, however, supplying the Nittany Lions with needed caused turnovers and transition prowess. In the semifinal game, Cyr had a game-high four caused turnovers, added a draw control, ground ball, while scoring two goals and an assist.

As for Mosketti, she registered a hat trick in her final game for the Blue & White, to earn a spot in the top 16 all-time at Penn State in goals with 121. Mosketti's three goals came in the first half to keep the Nittany Lions on pace with the eventual champion Tar Heels. Mosketti also picked up two draw controls, a ground ball and caused one turnover.

The 11th-ranked Nittany Lions ended their semifinal on a 4-0 run Friday night, but fell a goal shy of forcing overtime in a 12-11 loss to No. 3 North Carolina. The Tar Heels defeated top-ranked Maryland, 13-7, on Sunday afternoon for the national championship.

Penn State ended the season 14-7 and reached its 10th all-time NCAA Semifinal. The Nittany Lions were the only team to play both Maryland and North Carolina to one-goal games during the season.

Penn State played in the NCAA Tournament for a fifth straight year and has reached the quarterfinal stage in four of those five appearances under sixth-year head coach Missy Doherty.
