Nugent Earns AVCA Honorable Mention All-America Honor

May 5, 2016

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Junior Chris Nugent has been named an AVCA Honorable Mention All-America, as announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).

Nugent is the lone Nittany Lion to earn a selection from the AVCA this season. Nugent marks the first honorable mention selection for PSU since 2014, when Nick Goodell earned the distinction. The merit improves Penn State's total number of AVCA All-Americans to 82 since 1971.

Nugent led the Nittany Lions in kills (396), kills per set (3.84), aces (31) and aces per frame (0.30). In the national standings, his 3.80 kills per set ranks 12th and his 4.43 points per set ranks 13th. In addition to earning AVCA Honorable Mention All-American honors, Nugent was selected as the 2016 Uvaldo Acosta Memorial Co-EIVA Player of the Year; the All-America nod is the first career AVCA postseason honor for the Fair Lawn, N.J. native.

Nugent's honorable mention also marks the first All-America honor of his career. Garnering his second career All-EIVA award with a first team selection, Nugent has helped the Nittany Lions to a 19-10 overall record this season, including a 12-2 mark in the EIVA.

Penn State won the 2016 regular season EIVA championship for the 18th-consecutive year this season. Penn State bowed out of the EIVA tournament with a loss to No. 15 Saint Francis 3-1.
