UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State head men's tennis coach Jeff Zinn has moved veteran assistant coach Paul Tobin to the new position of associate head coach. Tobin is entering his fourth season at Penn State with coach Zinn.
Zinn made the move as Tobin has assisted him in turning the Nittany Lions into a national contender over the past three seasons. During Tobin's tenure at Penn State, the Nittany Lions have achieved records and rankings among the best in program history.
Penn State has gone 59-30 in the last three seasons, including two NCAA tournament appearances and reached a program-high ranking of No. 16 during the past two campaigns. The Nittany Lions also recorded their second ever appearance in the National Indoors in 2015, defeating Kentucky and South Florida to reach the national quarterfinals with the final teams in Chicago, Illinois.
"Paul is an integral part of every aspect of our program," said Zinn. "His knowledge and passion for the game are exceptional. Most importantly, he sets a tremendous example for our players with respect to his work ethic, discipline and personal character. I am thankful to our athletic administration for recognizing Paul's unique contributions."
Following the 2015-16 season, the ITA named Tobin the Atlantic Regional Assistant Coach of the Year. He became the first Penn State men's assistant coach to claim the honor since the awards inception in 1997.
"I am very excited about the new challenges and responsibilities I've received," said Tobin. "I am thankful that Coach Zinn and the athletic department are confident in my abilities to continue benefiting the Nittany Lion men's tennis program and the Penn State community. I look forward to the upcoming season and continuing our success both on and off the court."
