UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's soccer team announced its 2016 promotional schedule, Thursday, Aug. 18. The NIttany Lions host 11 home matches in 2016, including four Big Ten Conference matches and two BTN games. Head coach Bob Warming and the rest of the Nittany Lions will honor those who donned the Blue and White before them as well as pay special attention to the 11 National Championship teams with a #FlashbackFutbol theme throughout the 2016 campaign.
The Blue and White open the 2016 home campaign Friday, Sept. 2 when it welcomes James Madison to Happy Valley at 7 p.m. Student can experience a tailgate before the match, while there will be a kids zone that includes coloring pages and paw print tattoos. The 2016 home opener will also be the first of five home September matches where the team will celebrate Youth Soccer Month by selecting a "Kid of the Match" at each home contest.
PSU will host its first of two home doubleheaders with defending NCAA Champion women's soccer Friday, Sept. 9 with men's soccer playing in game two of the doubleheader. The two teams will host a tailgate for all students on Little Jeffrey between the doubleheader and will also be Pokemon Go Night with Pokemon soccer at halftime. The match against Saint Francis will also be International Student Night and welcome all international students to Jeffrey Field for the two matches starting with women's soccer at 5:30 p.m. and followed by the men's game at 8 p.m.
The fourth annual Mack Brady Game will be Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. when defending Big Ten Champions Ohio State comes to town. The Nittany Lions will also host Noisemaker Night where vuvuzelas will be given away to the first 500 fans when they enter Jeffrey Field.
The Blue and White will hold its second tailgate with women's soccer Friday, Sept. 23 against Wisconsin at 5:30 p.m. The Nittany Lions will honor all Penn State men's soccer national championship teams and raise the banner recognizing the championships. Friday's contest will also mark the first chance for members of the men's soccer student group Sons of Jeffrey to receive a t-shirt for attending five home matches. Any member of Sons of Jeffrey will be eligible to receive an exclusive t-shirt once they attend five home matches in the 2016 campaign. Lastly, fans will be selected to participate in Penn State men's soccer trivia for a chance to win retro prizes to commemorate the history of the program.
The Nittany Lions will celebrate Champions Week Tuesday, Sept. 27 against Temple when it hosts the Night of Champions, which will honor the women's soccer and wrestling teams for their National Championships in the 2015-16 season, while Tuesday, Oct. 11 will be Canada Day where memories for the International trip to Canada will be announced and fans can pick up Canadian classics at the marketing table.
Penn State will welcome all parents to town Saturday, Oct. 15 for Parents Weekend as well as Center Soccer Association Night when Big Ten foe Michigan State comes to Happy Valley for a 7 p.m. match at Jeffrey Field.
The Blue and White will celebrate its second annual Ability Athletes Day, in which the Penn State community will honor former Penn State soccer player Brett Gravatt as well as all Penn State Ability Athletes at halftime against Akron.
The Nittany Lions will encourage all fans to wear white to its Friday, Oct. 21 contest against Rutgers as they will whiteout Jeffrey Field against the Scarlet Knights. The match will also be THON Futbol Night. Penn State's THON is the longest dance marathon in the country, lasting 46 hours and engages more than 15,000 students each year.
Penn State recognizes its seven seniors Tuesday, Oct. 25 when it closes out its 2016 home season against Wright State at 7 p.m. Senior Day will also feature a Halloween theme with a corn maze on Little Jeffrey for kids 12 and younger, a pumpkin painting station and prizes for all children who come in costume. Finally, this match will be a Penn State Cub Club event, where all Cub Club members are invited to attend and run out with the team before the match begins.
Admission and parking for all men's soccer events are free. Fans are reminded that there is a no bag policy in place on stadium grounds. All promotions are subject to change and are while supplies last.
