IOWA CITY, IA - The Nittany Lions pushed their season opening win streak to eight straight Saturday afternoon as Penn State took care of business against Ball State in a 7-0 rout of the Cardinals at Grant Field.
Penn State (8-0, 1-0) continued to be an offensive power, scoring six or more goals for the fourth time this season. The Nittany Lions limited Ball State (4-3, 0-0) to two shots and one penalty corner for the game. The Lions erupted for a game-high 23 shots and nine penalty corners.
Two Penn State players scored twice as Shay Cannon struck twice early to make it a 2-0 Penn State lead, while Emily Klingler scored in the 17th- minute to make it 4-0 in favor of the Lions and capped scoring for the Blue & White scoring the seventh and final goal of the game in the 63rd-minute.
In total, five Nittany Lions scored on the day; Kasey Morano scored the third goal of the game with help from Moira Putsch to make it 3-0 in the 16th-minute, Katie Dembrowski scored the fifth goal of the game with an assist from Carly Celkos to make it 5-0 in the 43rd-minute and Aurelia Meijer notched the sixth goal of the game off the penalty corner insert from Putsch to make it 6-0 in the 44th-minute.
Penn State is 8-0 for the first time since 1993 when the Lions started 15-0. Penn State improves to 62-10-1 all tie in first time matchups in program history with the win over Ball State and take the series lead vs. the Cardinals at 1-0.
Penn State will return to action Friday, Sept. 23 at 3 p.m. CST in Evanston, Ill. when the Nittany Lions take on Big Ten foe Northwestern.
