UNIVERSITY PARK, PA - Men's golf ended its second tournament of the season with its best round, a one-over 285, to finish in fifth place out of 13 teams at the Inverness Intercollegiate hosted by Toledo.

"I was super pleased with our resolve and grit today," said head coach Greg Nye. "We scored well late today which helped us to a quality finish in this excellent field of teams."

Four out of the five Nittany Lions birdied their final hole of the tournament with all shooting at least even par on the back nine. Sophomore Charles Huntzinger (Duluth, Ga.) shot a 73 to finish at even par for the tournament and in a tie for 10th overall. Cole Miller (New Tripoli, Pa.) and freshman Ryan Davis (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) both finished with a 1-over 72 putting Miller in a tie for 20th at 3-over and Davis tied for 26th 5-over.

Senior Christian Elliott (Port Perry, Ontario) shot the second subpar round of the tournament for the Lions at 1-under, while JD Hughes (Carlisle, Pa.) finished at even par on the day. Both Elliott (T39, +8) and Hughes (T44, +10) saved their best for last, shooting their lowest scores during the final round of the event.

Auburn finished atop the team leaderboard at 9-under for the tournament with Duke three strokes off in second. Michigan (+10) shot a tournament-low 14-under in round three to claim the third spot with Michigan State (+13) and the Lions (+14) right behind.

Individually, Michigan's Nick Carlson and Duke's Jake Shuman shared medalist honors at 4-under with Carlson winning the one-hole playoff.

The Lions return to action next week September 26-27 for the Primland Collegiate hosted by Wake Forest. The Blue and White finished fourth last year in which rain shortened the tournament from 54 to 36 holes.
