Nittany Lion Fencing Opens Season Strong at Nittany Lion Cup Men's team gets the season started, women compete tomorrow

UNIVERSITYPARK, Pa.; September 24, 2016 - The Penn State fencing team opened up the 2016-17 season with the first day of the Nittany Lion Cup Open strong. Penn State took home first place in Epee, Sabre and Foil.

Sophomore Anton Piskovatskov (Houston, Texas) took home first place for epee. Senior Patrick August (Las Vegas, Nev.) placed second and fellow Senior Conor Shepard (Colleyville, Texas) came in third place.

The Nittany Lions dueled their way to first in sabre as well with Junior Andrew Mackiewicz (Westwood, Mass.) taking first place and sophomore Matthew Lewicki (Oakland, N.J.) placing second and Sophomore Karol Metryka ( Linden, N.J.) came in third place.

Freshman Mohamed Hassan (Saint Louis, MO) took home first place in the foil and Andrey Ostantnigrosh (Fresno, Calif.) finished second.

The Penn States Women's Fencing team will be compete tomorrow in day two of the Nittany Lion Cup Open.
