MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Sport Tours International has announced the move of both of its Puerto Rico Women's Basketball tournaments to the mainland United States, including the 2016 San Juan Shootout. The Thanksgiving week tournament will now be played in Daytona Beach, Florida, with both events moved due to concerns over the risk of the Zika outbreak in Puerto Rico.
"This is not an easy decision for us in light of our decades of relationships with our Puerto Rican partners," said Sport Tours President Lee Frederick. "However, we understand it is what the universities want at this time. The strength of our relationships in Daytona Beach and Las Vegas has allowed us to make the changes smoothly. We look forward to returning to San Juan in 2017 and beyond."
The San Juan Shootout will now be held on Thursday, Nov. 24 and Friday, Nov. 25 instead of Friday and Saturday, Nov. 26. All games will be held at the Ocean Center Arena.
The Lady Lions's opponents in the tournament remain Georgia State and Georgetown, and updated game times will be finalized soon and can be found at GoPSUsports.com.
Ticket information will also be made available in the coming days from Sports Tours International.
