Field Hockey Checks in at No. 6 in NFHCA Poll

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.
- Falling 5-4 in a close contest to then-No. 6 Maryland, Penn State dropped a spot in this week's poll checking in as the No. 6 team in the nation in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) poll released Tuesday afternoon.

Penn State (12-2, 4-2 B1G) is coming off a 5-4 loss to Big Ten foe Maryland that saw the Nittany Lions fall to 4-2 in B1G play and 12-2 overall.

UConn remained atop the polls as the No. 1 team in Division I field hockey; the Huskies remain undefeated at 15-0 on the season receiving 32 first-place votes.

Following UConn, Duke (10-1) at No. 2, Syracuse (12-2) at No. 3, North Carolina (12-3) at No. 4 and Maryland (12-3) at No. 5 round out the top-five teams in the coaches poll.

Duke received eight first-place votes, while Syracuse and North Carolina split the remaining six votes receiving three apiece.

Penn State travels to Piscataway, N.J. Friday afternoon to take on the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers at 3 p.m. at Bauer Track and Field/Field Hockey Complex.
