Men's Tennis Completes Play at the Bobby Bayliss Invitational Today

October 9, 2016 - UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; The Penn State men's tennis team finished up at the University of Notre Dame's Bobby Bayliss Invitational this afternoon. This weekend's tournament was held in the Eck Tennis Pavillion in South Bend, Ind.

Today's matches consisted of both singles and doubles, and featured all four travelling Nittany Lions. Christian Lakoseljac (King City, Ontario, Canada) and Henry Gordon (New Braunfels, Tx.) paired to play against Notre Dame doubles team Alex Lebedev and Matt Gamble. The Lakoseljac/Gordon duo took down Lebedev/Gamble in a close 8-7 fight. Senior Aws Laaribi (Rye, N.Y.) and freshman Gabriel Nemeth (Brasilia, Brazil) partnered to defeat doubles team Mackenzie Sterns and Brandon Shanklin from Marquette University, 8-4.

In singles, Lakoseljac came out strong and was victorious against Notre Dame's Daniel Rayl, winning the match 6-3, 7-6(4). Nemeth, Gordon, and Laaribi also played singles matches this afternoon but were just shy of leaving victorious.

"I think we finished off the weekend pretty well, taking two doubles and one singles. I was very impressed with doubles, only losing one match the whole tournament," said associate head coach Paul Tobin from South Bend."Gabriel did a great job today his win over Rayl from Notre Dame. I am looking forward to taking the guys to Virginia Tech this week; I think we're going to see a lot of players step up."

The Lions will head south to Blacksburg, Va. next weekend, October 14-18, for the ITA Regional Championship.
