UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's hockey team played to a 1-1 tie against College Hockey America (CHA) opponent Lindenwood Saturday afternoon inside the Pegula Ice Arena.

"As you all know, being a part of this community is about being a part of something bigger than yourself," head coach Josh Brandwene said. "I'd like to start by expressing my gratitude to the folks at THON, the families that are here today and the young children who are fighting a battle that I don't think any of us can possibly imagine. It's a great reminder that there are things in life that are more important than sports."

"It was a special day from that standpoint to have all of them here and to really kind of put into focus what matters," Brandwene added. "I'm really grateful to them for their attendance today. It was certainly a great atmosphere. From a hockey standpoint, I'm really pleased with our second and third period. I think we have a lot to learn from the start we got off to today."

Offensively for the Nittany Lions (5-6-3, 4-1-1 CHA), Minnetonka, Minnesota, natives, Laura Bowman, Katie McMillan and Amy Petersen combined for Penn State's lone goal Saturday. In net for the Blue and White, freshman goaltender Daniela Paniccia (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) recorded a 24-save performance.

Lindenwood (0-9-1, 0-3-1 CHA) was led by forward Britannia Gillanders, who tallied her second goal of the series, and goaltender Jolene deBruyn who recorded 28 saves.

Both goals Saturday afternoon were scored during the second stanza as Gillanders put the Lindenwood Lions up 1-0 on a short-handed goal at 5:47. Almost eight minutes later, McMillan's power play goal at 13:42 tied the contest at 1-1.

Similar to yesterday's contest, power play opportunities were limited as the two teams combined for four penalties in 65 minutes of play Saturday.

The Nittany Lions continue their six-game homestand against non-conference opponent No. 4 St. Lawrence, Nov. 21-22. Puck drop is set for 6 p.m. on Nov. 21 and 3 p.m. on Nov. 22.
