Page Earns Third B1G Player of the Week Honor

Dec. 19, 2016

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- After another impressive performance on Sunday (Dec. 18), sophomore Teniya Page (Chicago, Ill.) has been named the Big Ten Player of the Week. The honor marks the third of the season for Page, who recorded her second 30-point game of the year in the victory over American.

Page earned her third Big Ten weekly honor of the season, making her the fourth Lady Lion in school history to win three-or-more conference weekly awards in the same season. She is the first three-time winner of the B1G POTW honor since Maggie Lucas won it three times in 2013.

It is the fourth in-season honor of her career, as she earned the Big Ten Freshman of the Week last season on Jan. 4, 2016. She previously won Big Ten Player of the Week on Nov. 21 and Dec. 5, 2016.

Page joined elite company with her third career 30-point game on Sunday vs. American, joining Kelly Mazzante as the only other Penn State player to register three-or-more 30 point games before the end of their sophomore year. It was the second 30-point game of the season for Page and the fifth time she scored at least 20 points in 2016-17.

Versus American, Page hit 7-of-15 shots from the field and connected on 15-of-17 free throw attempts. The sophomore also added three rebounds, three assists and her one steal sealed the victory over the Eagles, leading to her final point of the night via free throw.

Her 15 made free throws and 17 attempts from the charity stripe both rank tied for No. 2 on Penn State's single game list, just behind Maggie Lucas' 16 makes in Nov. 2013 and Helen Darling's 18 attempts vs. North Carolina State in Nov. 1998.

On the season, Page is averaging 20.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. In 11 starts, she ranks No. 18 nationally in points per game, while sitting No. 18 nationally in 3-point field goal percentage (48.9%) and among the leaders in 3-pointers made per game (2.0). She has scored 15-plus points in 10 of 11 games, with the only exception her nine-point, six-rebound, three-assist effort in 24 minutes of a lopsided victory against Georgia State.
