Doherty and O'Donnell on #BestOfLax Ballot by US Lacrosse Magazine

SPARKS, Md. - Penn State women's lacrosse head coach Missy Doherty and junior midfielder Katie O'Donnell (West Chester, Pa.) have each been nominated by U.S. Lacrosse Magazine for their annual "Best of Lacrosse" contest for the 2016 season as announced last week.

Doherty has been nominated for Best Women's Coach after guiding the unseeded Nittany Lions to their first Final Four in 17 seasons and a 14-7 record. Penn State upset heavily favored No. 2 Florida and No. 7 Penn before falling one goal short against eventual National Champion UNC.

O'Donnell is on the ballot for Best Women's Performance as she scored five goals, each giving PSU the lead, during a 14-13 back-and-forth overtime victory against No. 2 Florida in the second round of the NCAA tournament. O'Donnell was also a perfect 3-for-3 on free position tallies in the victory.

Fan voting began last Monday and continues through December 19 at 5 p.m. The U.S. Lacrosse Magazine staff selections along with the voting results will then be posted on December 27, 2016. The fan vote does not determine winners.
