NEW ORLEANS, LA. - The Penn State men's track & field team will start the 2017 indoor track & field season in the top-25 of the National Computer Rankings, as released Monday afternoon by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Both Nittany Lion track & field teams are represented in the rankings with the men's team holding the No. 20 spot, while the women are currently just outside the top-25 checking in at No. 43 in the preseason rankings.
Head coach John Gondak is in his third season at the helm of the men's and women's teams coming off a 2016 indoor season that saw the women's team record a third-place finish at the Big Ten indoor championships, while the men placed sixth. It was the 12th-consecutive year the women have been in the top-four at the Big Ten indoor championships. The men's and women's team combined for three All-American honors at the 2016 NCAA indoor championships in Birmingham, Ala. to close out the season.
The Nittany Lions open the indoor track season hosting this weekend's Nittany Lion Challenge, starting Saturday, January 14 at 11 a.m. ET.
