UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -The Penn State women's basketball program will open 2017 at home when it hosts Iowa on Tuesday (Jan. 3) inside the Bryce Jordan Center. The Lady Lions and Hawkeyes will tipoff at 7 p.m. on the Big Ten Network, with the game available on the Penn State Sports Network and on BTN2go.com.

Scouting Iowa

  • Iowa opened the season with a 9-4 non-conference record before starting Big Ten play with a 1-1 record. The Hawkeyes fell, 65-70, at Illinois to open conference play, but rebounded with a home win over Nebraska, 75-72.
  • As a team, Iowa is averaging 77.3 points per game, hitting the 70-point mark in 11 times in 15 games, while eclipsing the 80-point plateau on seven occasions.
  • The Hawkeyes rank No. 1 in the Big Ten and 25 nationally in opponents 3-point field goal percentage defense, limiting the opposition to just a 26.5 percent clip from deep.
  • Senior Ally Disterhoft and sophomore Megan Gustafson lead the team with 17.3 points per game. They each have a season total of 259 points in 15 starts.
  • Gustafson also leads the team with 10.3 rebounds per game, with at least nine rebounds in four of her last five games. Her seven double-doubles lead the Big Ten.
  • Freshman Kathleen Doyle ranks No. 2 on the team in assists at 57 helpers and leads the squad in steals with 30 - double the next closest Hawkeye. She is also averaging 11.0 points in her first two Big Ten contests.

Last Five Games

  • Penn State owns a 3-2 record over its last five games, entering Wednesday on a two-game skid. The 0-2 start to Big Ten play is just the fifth time in Penn State history it started 0-2 to begin a conference season (B1G or A-10).
  • The Lady Lions own a plus-7.6 rebounding edge over the last five games, grabbing 38.8 rebounds to the opposition's 31.2 rebounds.
  • Penn State is averaging 6.6 made 3-pointers per game over the last five games, just behind their season average of 6.9.
  • Playing in four of the five games, sophomore Teniya Page leads the team with 20.0 points per game. She also has 19 assists during that span.
  • Redshirt freshman Amari Carter is averaging 8.4 points, while collecting a team-high seven steals in five starts.
  • Junior Lindsey Spann is chipping in 10.4 points and 2.8 rebounds per game over the last five, making seven 3-pointers.
  • Senior Peyton Whitted is leading the team with 5.8 rebounds per game and adds 5.4 points to her total in the last five games..

Last Time Out -- at Rutgers 61, Penn State 45 (Dec. 31, 2016)

  • Amari Carter led the team in scoring for the first time in her career with a career-high 17 points, including a career-best four 3-pointers.
  • She added four assists and three steals.
  • Sierra Moore made her first start since March 4, 2015. She missed last season due to injury and came off the bench in the first 13 games.
  • Moore finished second on the team with 14 points in the game.
    She added five rebounds, two steals and one assist.
  • Peyton Whitted tallied 10 points -- eight coming in the second half -- and tied for game high with seven rebounds.
  • Whitted's seven rebounds move her career total to 544 caroms, pushing her past Maggie Lucas (541, 2011-14) for No. 27 all-time at Penn State.
  • Ashanti Thomas tied for game high with seven rebounds.
  • Penn State controlled the boards to the tune of a 45-30 rebounding margin.
  • The plus-15 rebound margin marks the second-highest margin of the season (Pittsburgh, +18) and the third time in 2016-17 the rebound margin has been plus-10 or better in favor of Penn State.
  • Of the 45 rebounds, 23 of them came on the offensive end. The 23 offensive rebounds are the most since grabbing 24 caroms on the offensive end against Fairleigh Dickinson on Dec. 2, 2012.
  • The 23 offensive boards are the most in a Big Ten game since pulling down 29 vs. Ohio State on Feb. 20, 2012.
  • Penn State's four points in the first quarter are the fewest in any quarter this season and the fewest since the NCAA went to quarters at the start of the 2015-16 season.

Last Meeting - at Penn State 81, Iowa 68 (Feb. 24, 2016)

  • Candice Agee ended her Bryce Jordan Center career with a career-high-tying 21 points. It is the third time in her career she netted 21 points, doing so against Seton Hall (11/22) and USF (12/21) in 2014-15.
  • Agee added six rebounds, two assists and three steals to her stat line, as well.
  • Brianna Banks scored 11 of her 17 points in the first quarter of her final home contest in the blue and white.
  • Banks added a career-high five steals in the game and, added our rebounds and one assist.
  • Lindsey Spann netted 18 points on the night for her 20th double figure scoring game of the season.
  • Spann's four three pointers moved her into a tie for 13th on the single season charts with 60 made triples.
  • Furthermore, her four made shots from three-point range give her 97 for her career, tying her with Dana Eikenberg (1989-92) got No. 14 on the career charts.
  • Penn State reached the 80-point mark for the fourth time in Big Ten play this season.
  • In two games vs. Iowa this season, Penn State has led for 77:09 of 80 minutes. The game has been tied for 1:56 and Iowa led for just 55 seconds.
  • Penn State tied its season-high with 16 fast break points and held the advantage in fast break points (16-4) for the 21st time in 28 games this season.
  • Penn State owned the edge, 24-20, in points off turnovers, marking the 15th time in 2015-16 it led in the category.
