LEXINGTON, KY
- Day one of the Rod McCravy Memorial Invitational was highlighted by several strong performances from Penn State with Robert Cardina's performance in the heptathlon leading the way Friday afternoon at the Nutter Field House.

Senior multi Robert Cardina, who holds the school record for the heptathlon long jump, 60-meters and total points, added another record to the list in the heptathlon shot put.

Cardina set the record with his throw of 46'-6.25" (14.18m) erasing the old heptathlon record of 45'-10" (13.97m) set by James Cook in 1998.

Currently sitting in second-place after day one, Cardina holds a current score of 3,053, just 68-points out of the lead trailing only Kentucky's Ibn Short. The final three events of the men's multi will be contested tomorrow starting at 10 a.m. ET.

In the men's 200-meters, the duo of Malik Moffett and Xavier Smith claimed top honors with their 1-2 finish; Moffett, ran 21.10 while Smith, ran 21.28 both season best times.

Morgan Shigo had an outstanding day in the men's weight throw, recording the No. 3 mark in Penn State history with a personal best of 66'-4" (20.23m).

Shigo's mark puts him behind Penn State school record holder and former All-American Will Barr and Dorian Lowe. Teammate David Lucas threw a personal best of 65'-0" (19.82m) just outside the No. 5 performance in Penn State indoor history in the event.

In total, Penn State set eight new collegiate indoor personal best marks during day one action at the McCravy Memorial Invitational.

Penn State will return to action tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. in Lexington, Ky. for the Day two of Rod McCravy Memorial meet hosted by the University of Kentucky.
