PHILADELPHIA, Pa. ââ'¬" The fourth ranked Penn State men's ice hockey team will play a single contest this week as they travel to the Wells Fargo Center for a showdown with Princeton as part of the fifth-annual Philadelphia College Hockey Faceoff on Saturday at 7 p.m.

HOW TO WATCH
The game will be broadcast on the The IVY League Digital Network where a subscription is required to watch. Tickets for the event are still available and can be purchased HERE!

THIS WEEK'S MATCHUP

  • Penn State travels to the Wells Fargo Center to battle Princeton for a single contest as part of the fifth annual Philadelphia College Hockey Faceoff.\
  • Penn State is 3-1 all-time in this event. This will be the first time the Nittany Lions' opponent has been someone other than Vermont as the Catamounts have participated since the games inception during the 2012-2013 season.
  • The Nittany Lions have scored four goals in each of their victories in the event and are outscoring opponents 14-9.

LAST TIME THEY MET

  • The two teams met for just the first time ever last season as the Nittany Lions defeated the Tigers 6-3 at Pegula Ice Arena in Guy Gadowsky's first matchup against his former team since joining the Nittany Lions in 2011.

DON'T GO 'CHASE'ING WATERFALLS

  • Sophomore forward Chase Berger is currently riding a career-best, five-game point streak with four goals and four assists for eight points over that span.
  • Berger has also collected three multi-point games over this streak giving him five on the season and nine for his career.
  • His 10 goals are good for third on the team and tied ninth in the conference while his 21 points rank tenth in the Big Ten.
  • The sophomore also leads the conference in Faceoff win percentage at .620, a mark good for fourth best in the entire country.

HOCKEY HUMANITARIAN

  • Last week captain David Goodwin was announced as a nominee for the 2017 Hockey Humanitarian Award just a week after being announced as a 2017 Senior CLASS Award nominee.
  • Earlier this season Goodwin became the first player in Penn State history to notch 100-career points.
  • This season Goodwin is currently third on the team with 20 points on a pair of goals and 18 assists.

FAMILIAR FOE

  • For the second consecutive year Guy Gadowsky will faceoff with his former team the Princeton Tigers. This year a little more is at stake as he is just one win shy of 250 for his career.
  • Gadowsky coached Princeton for seven seasons leading them to a pair of NCAA Tournament berths in 2008 and 2009.
  • The Edmonton, Alberta native registered his first win as coach of the Alaska Nanooks on October 9, 1999. His 200th win came back on November 15, 2014 - a 4-1 victory at No. 4 UMass-Lowell.
  • Gadowsky holds a 76-71-12 record as Bench Boss at Penn State including a 49-29-8 record since his 200th win against UML.

CITY OF BROTHERLY LOVE

  • Seniors Ricky DeRosa and David Thompson join sophomore Kevin Kerr and freshman Peyton Jones as local Philadelphia area youths turned Penn State hockey players. The four reside in Philly suburbs.
  • Kerr notched an assist in his first Penn State game in Philly last season while Thompson had the game-winning goal two years ago with a primary assist by DeRosa during a 4-2 victory over Vermont.
  • For Jones this marks his first trip to Philly as a member of Penn State.

IN'VINCE'ABLE

  • Last weekend defenseman Vince Pedrie tied the Penn State career record for goals by a defenseman with his 15th tally in 53 career games played. He is now tied with Luke Juha '16.
  • His 41 points are already second all-time in Penn State history for a defenseman trailing only the 60 of Juha. His 26 assists rank him third on the all-time list for blue liners.
  • His 19 points and seven goals lead all Big Ten defenseman.

PENN STATE FEATURED ON TOP PLAYS

  • Penn State was again featured on NCAA Ice Hockey's "Nice from the Ice" the top 5 plays of the week on Tuesday afternoon. Pedrie slapped a puck out of midair and into the back of the net for a second period goal on Friday.

RECAPPING OHIO STATE

  • Penn State dropped just their second game all season at home on Saturday evening following a 3-3 tie on Friday.
  • The loss was just the third time all year Penn State allowed four or more goals in a game. The Lions were outscored 3-0 in the third period.
  • The seven round shootout loss on Friday was the first shootout game for the Nittany Lions since a regulation shootout win February 13, 2016 at Michigan State.

SCOUTING PRINCETON

  • Princeton enters this game winless in their last five after winning 7-of-8 before the holiday break.
  • Princeton has secured five victories over ranked opponents this year including a sweep over last seasons national runner-up Quinnipiac in December.
  • The Tigers are led by a talented sophomore class as four of their top six scorers are in just their second season in the Orange and Black including leading scorer Max Veronneau (7-16-23) and leading goal scorer Ryan Kuffner (10-10-20).
  • Princeton has seven players with double-digit points on the season: Veronneau, Kuffner, Cressey, Hallisey, Riche, Teves and Robinson.
  • Between the pipes in senior Colton Phinney who can easily steal a game, which he has done often this season, posting a 6-11-2 record with a 3.52 goals against average and an .897 save percentage. Phinney posted back-to-back 33 save performances when defeating Quinnipiac.
