BATON ROUGE, La. - The Penn State softball team was unable to secure a win on day two of the Tiger Classic, losing a close 1-0 game to Oklahoma State before falling 14-1 in five innings to LSU in the nightcap Saturday, Feb. 11 at Tiger Park.

Seniors Kristina Brackpool (Valencia, Calif.) and Shelby Miller (Sugar Land, Texas) led the Nittany Lions with two hits each on the day, while Toni Polk (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) drove in the lone run of the day for the Blue and White on a sacrifice fly.

Sophomore Madison Seifert (Wildwood, Mo.) suffered the loss in game one, going all six innings, while Jessica Cummings (Owings, Md.) went two innings and got the loss in game two against LSU. Also seeing time in the circle for the Blue and White were Madison Shaffer (New Castle, Pa.) and Marlaina Laubach (Northampton, Pa.).

Game One: Oklahoma State 1, Penn State 0

Miller led Penn State in game one, going two-for-two and drawing one walk, while Seifert went the distance in her second appearance of the season giving up five hits.

An error on the leadoff batter proved costly for the Penn State defense as the runner stole second and came around to score on a single up the middle with no outs. The Nittany Lions worked out of the inning, retiring the next three batters in order to trail 1-0 heading into the top of the second.

Penn State tallied four hits through five innings but was unable to string them together and bring in a run to knot the score.

The Nittany Lions largest threat came in the top of the sixth inning when Christa Wagner (Plainville, Mass.) singles up the middle for her first collegiate hit and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Dubois. Wagner made her way to third on a stolen base but was thrown out at the plate on a grounder to third.

The Blue and White could not sneak a run across the plate in its last inning at-bat, falling 1-0 to the Cowgirls of Oklahoma State.

Game Two: LSU 14, Penn State 1

Polk paced Penn State with the lone RBI of the day, while Brackpool, Delaney Elling (Washington, Pa.) and Rebecca Ziegler (Tucson, Ariz.) each had a hit for the Nittany Lions.

The Tigers got on the board early using four hits and a Penn State error to score five runs and take the 5-0 lead over the Blue and White.

LSU used another big inning that tacked on eight runs on seven hits and three Penn State errors to extend its lead to 13-0 in the bottom of the third inning.

The Nittany Lions loaded the bases in the top of the fourth inning using a walk and back-to-back singles from Brackpool and Elling. Penn State lit up the scoreboard when Polk hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring in Dubois from third base.

The Tigers answered in the bottom half of the inning, adding one final run to its tally to take the 14-1 five-inning victory over the Nittany Lions.
