UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Led by an NCAA provisional qualifying effort in the 200 medley relay Penn State men's swimming and diving ranks sixth at the 2017 Big Ten Men's Swimming & Diving Championships after the first two relays Wednesday night in Ohio State's McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.

The team of Shane Ryan (Havertown, Pa.), Kaelan Freund (Lethbridge, Alberta), Tomer Zamir (Gesher Haziv, Israel) and Bob Bantley (Maple Glen, Pa.) swam the second fastest 200 medley relay in program history, clocking in at 1:25.27 to rank fifth. The time surpassed the NCAA's provisional standard.

Bantley also anchored Penn State's 800 free relay effort, which placed seventh in a season-best 6:26.35. JP Cervone (Sao Paulo, Brazil), Matt Stasiunas (Avondale, Pa.) and Ryan O'Neill (Howell, N.J.) swam the first three legs, respectively.

Through two events, the Nittany Lions rank sixth with 96 points, six points behind fifth-place Minnesota (102) and two points ahead of seventh-place Iowa (94). No. 4 Indiana leads with 128 points.

The meet will continue with 11 a.m. preliminaries and 6:30 p.m. finals Thursday-Saturday. All sessions will be streamed live via BTN Plus on BTN2Go. The Big Ten Network will also televise Saturday's finals Sunday at 10:30 a.m. ET. Complimentary access to BTN2Go is available to viewers connected to the internet network of a Big Ten university.
