Aponte Named to Tewaaraton Watch List

Feb. 28, 2017

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - After a breakout junior season and a solid beginning to his final campaign, Penn State men's lacrosse senior attackman Nick Aponte has been named to the Tewaaraton watch list for the second straight season, as announced by the Tewaaraton Foundation Tuesday evening.

Aponte, a West Islip, New York, native, is currently third on Penn State in points with 13 on five goals, tied for third on the team, and eight assists, which rank second among the Nittany Lions.

The lone captain of the 2017 squad, Aponte is coming off a junior season in which led the team in both goals (30) and points (49). Aponte is currently on a 36-game point scoring streak, registering 51 goals and 42 assists for 93 points since April 5, 2014.

The Tewaaraton Award, presented by Under Armour, annually honors the top male and female
college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier
collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by The Tewaaraton Foundation.

Aponte and the rest of the No. 5 Nittany Lions are set for one of three top-10 showdowns this week, taking on No. 8 Penn on Saturday at the Penn State lacrosse field at noon. With a win, Penn State would start the season 5-0 for the first time since 1992, when the team opened the season at 7-0.
