ROSEMONT, Ill - Sophomore defenseman Vince Pedrie (Rochester, Minn.) has been named the Big Ten Conference Second Star of the Week as announced by the league office earlier Tuesday morning.
Pedrie led the entire Big Ten in points over the weekend as he tallied four assists to help No. 11 Penn State to a road sweep over Michigan State with 4-2 and 4-1 victories.
The sophomore blue-liner notched a pair of assists in each game including an assist on each game-winning goal. Pedrie now has 25 points on the season, good for second in the Big Ten amongst defensemen. He currently has seven goals and 18 assists, which ties teammate Trevor Hamilton for the Penn State single-season record for assists by defensemen.
The sophomore also collected his seventh and eighth multi-point games on the season over the weekend giving him nine for his career.
This marks the first career weekly award for Pedrie and he becomes the fifth different Nittany Lion to earn weekly accolades this season joining Peyton Jones, Denis Smirnov, Nate Sucese and Chase Berger.
The Nittany Lions return to action this weekend when they host No. 16 Wisconsin at Pegula Ice Arena on Friday and Saturday evening.
