Bisono Claims Messiah Open Crown

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. ââ'¬" Red-shirt freshman Francisco Bisono (Hauppauge, N.Y.) won the Messiah Open title today, one of three Nittany Lions to place at the event. Penn State had a number of wrestlers in action both attached and unattached at two open tournaments, Messiah and the Edinboro Open.

Bisono went 4-0 to win the 174-pound title. He was joined as a placer by true freshmen Brian Friery (Lewisburg, Pa.), who went 4-2 with two pins and a major to take fourth at 141; and true freshman Luke Gardner (Pottsville, Pa.), who went 3-2 with a technical fall to take fourth at 149.

True freshman heavyweight Alex Nicholas (Allentown, Pa.) went 3-2 while junior Ethan Wissler (Holtwood, Pa.), picked up a pin at 285 as well. True freshman Devon Schnupp (Lititz, Pa.) had pin at 125. At Edinboro, red-shirt freshman Dominic Giannangeli (Murrysville, Pa.) went 3-2 with a major at 141. Classmate Patrick Higgins (Monroeville, N.J.) competed at 133 as did true freshman Justin Lopez (Yonkers, N.Y.) at 125.

Penn State returns to Rec Hall for two home duals next weekend. Action begins with a meeting with Illinois on Friday, Feb. 10, at 7 p.m. in Rec Hall. The Nittany Lions then host Maryland on Sunday at 2 p.m. in their home finale, which will also serve as Senior Day. All Rec Hall dual meets are sold out, but a very limited number of Standing Room Only tickets can be purchased by calling 1-800-NITTANY.
