In our second-edition of the Penn State field hockey alumni update we take a look at Jamie Brower, known during her playing days here in Happy Valley as Jamie Smith.
Hometown: Hummelstown, PA
Years with PSUFH: 1994-1999
Major: Kinesiology
How did Penn State prepare you?
Penn State taught me teamwork, loyalty, discipline, and how being a student athlete at any level is about being a good person and good teammate, and being accountable.... not all about wins and losses.
Favorite memory as a Nittany Lion?
That is tough one. Probably beating Old Dominion during the regular season my senior year. That, and doing the rubber tubing workout in Holuba at 6 a.m. when Dawn Lammey's belt slipped off and she got schalacked with the tubing on her legs from about 40 yds out.
What are you currently up to?
It is my 18th year at Greenwich Academy in CT, I am a PE teacher and coach, it is my third-year as varsity head coach, following in the footsteps of legendary coach Angela Tammaro. I also coach middle school ice hockey, and middle school lacrosse. I married Penn State icer Brent Brower and we have 4 kids (Cameron -12, Casey - 10, Brentie - 8 and Caroline - 5). Living the dream.
Anything else you would like to add?
I am forever grateful to the Penn State field hockey staff while I was there.... Char, LB, Renee, for guiding me as a person and player through that part of my life, and continuing to be a part of my life after college - and for all the lessons you taught me while I was there, that I take with me as a coach now myself.
