UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Three Nittany Lions card career-low rounds placing them in first place after day one of the Seminole Intercollegiate finishing with a 15-under score or 273 on the Southwood Golf Course in Tallahassee, Florida.

The Lions used the back nine to their advantage compiling a combined score of 11-under amongst the five starters, while also leading the tournament in par-5 scoring at 11-under as well.

"We have been playing well of late and were very patient through the turn today," said head coach Greg Nye. "The back nine has some challenging holes that we played well and then made some good numbers on a few 'gettables' coming home."

Upperclassmen led the way for the Lions as junior Cole Miller (New Tripoli, Pa.) and senior Christian Elliott (Port Perry, Ontario) both had career rounds. Miller's front nine consisted of two bogies and an eagle, while the back nine included an eagle and four birdies to finish at 6-under and in a tie atop the player leaderboard. Miller leads the tournament in par-5 scoring at 5-under while the 66 ties a career-best.

"Cole's round today was very solid and patient through 14," said Nye. "He made birdie at the tough 15th, followed the eagle at 16 with a good par at the challenging 17th and then birdied 18."

Elliott also made strides on the back nine finishing with a 4-under opening round that included three birdies in the final four holes. Elliott currently sits in a tie for 8th place in the 81-player field after his career-low round of 68.

Freshman Ryan Davis (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) started the day 1-over after three holes before carding four birdies throughout the rest of the day to finish with his career-low round of 69 tied for 12th. Sophomore Charles Huntzinger (Duluth, Ga.) shot three birdies, including one on 18, to offset his lone bogey to finish in a tie for 20th at 2-under.

Sophomore Ryan Dornes (Lancaster, Pa.) finished at 1-over for the Lions and tied for 50th, while JD Hughes (Carlisle, Pa.) playing as an individual shot a even par to finish in a tie for 39th.

Tied with Miller atop the leaderboard is Luke Schniederjans from Georgia Tech and five golfers are tied a stroke behind the duo at 5-under.

Host No. 31 Florida State sits in second behind the Lions just one stroke off at 274 while No. 24 Georgia Tech sits in third with a 276.

Lions will be paired with Florida State and Georgia Tech for round two of play beginning at 10:20 a.m.
