UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Cole Miller, a junior on the Penn State men's golf team, earned Big Ten Golfer of the Week honors after leading the Nittany Lions to a first-place finish at the Seminole Intercollegiate in Tallahassee, Florida over the weekend.
Miller finished first in a field of 81 golfers to lead the Nittany Lions to a team victory at the Florida State tournament. He fired the second-lowest 54-hole score in program history at 201 with four eagles and 12 birdies. The New Tripoli, Pennsylvania product was one of two golfers to shoot all rounds sub-70. He eagled the 16th hole on the final round to finish at 15-under and secure both individual and team title.
As a team, Penn State's team score of 233 ranks second lowest all-time for a 54-hole tournament. Georgia Tech and Florida State, both ranked in the top-30 nationally, finished at 28-under and three strokes behind the Lions.
This is the first weekly award of Miller's season and the second of his career. The last Penn State Golfer of the Week: was Charles Huntzinger (Oct. 19, 2016).
The Nittany Lion golf team returns to action March 19-21 at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Virginia. Penn State is the reigning champion of the tournament hosted by William & Mary.
