WTEN Shuts Out Wisconsin

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; March 19, 2017-- The Penn State women's tennis team shut out Big Ten rival Wisconsin 7-0, improving to 5-8 on the season. The team is now 2-1 in Big Ten conference play this season.

"Winning on the road in the Big Ten is never easy," said head coach Chris Cagle. "Wisconsin played hard today but our team is building and it showed in many areas today. We do not compete next weekend so we will be getting ready for Maryland and Rutgers in a few weeks time."

In singles, Devan McCluskey (Phoenix, Ariz.) quickly defeated Kelsey Grambeau of Wisconsin in straight sets 6-0, 6-2. Hanley, Smith and Zuhse also clinched their singles matches in straight sets. Katia Blik (Moscow, Russia) beat Maria Avgerinos in three sets 6-2, 3-6, 6-0. Bennett Dunn (Orlando, Florida) bounced back after her first set to beat Melissa Pick 0-6, 7-6, 1-0.

In doubles, Zuhse/Dunn took down Avgerinos/Grambeau 6-2. Blik/Smith locked up the doubles point with their 7-5 victory over Pick/Linden.

Up next, The Nittany Lions take on Maryland on March 31. First serve is set for 5:00p.m. in the Sarni Indoor Tennis Center.
