PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The sixth-ranked Penn State women's lacrosse team travels to Drexel for a midweek non-conference affair against the Dragons on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

THE MATCHUP

  • Penn State holds the 6-0 record in the all-time series against Drexel. The series started in 1994 and the teams met again the following season before taking 17 years off. The two schools have now met each year since 2013.
  • The Nittany Lions average margin of victory over the Dragons is 8.67 goals as they are outscoring Drexel 83-58 in the six games prior.

LAST TIME OUT

  • Penn State is coming off a 16-10 victory over Johns Hopkins on Saturday.
  • Sophomore Madison Carter tied a career-high with six goals while senior Steph Lazo added five.
  • Penn State trailed at the half for just the first time all season, 8-4, before outscoring the Blue Jays 12-2 in the second half including scoring the final eight goals of the contest.

LIONS ROAR PAST TIGERS

  • Penn State improved to 3-1 on the season against ranked opponents when they defeated No. 5 Princeton, 13-8, last Tuesday.
  • Senior goalkeeper Cat Rainone collected a career-high ten saves in the victory, holding the No. 14 scoring offense in the country more than four goals below its season average. Rainone was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career for her efforts in net throughout the week.

CARTER CONTINUES TO IMPRESS

  • For the second time this season Madison Carter earned Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors after scoring eight goals while adding one assist for 10 points during a 2-0 week for the Nittany Lions.
  • Carter currently leads the Big Ten in goals with 40, good for fifth in the entire nation. She is just three points shy of 100 for her career with 88 goals and nine assists to her credit in just 32 games.
  • Carter's 64 draw controls on the season also tie for the Big Ten lead and rank fifth in the country while Penn State as a team leads the Big Ten and ranks fourth in the nation with 169 draws. The Nittany Lions are averaging 15.36 draw controls per game, good for sixth in the nation and tops in the Big Ten.

REVERSAL OF FORTUNE

  • Penn State trailed at the half for just the first time all season against Johns Hopkins, but used 12 second period goals to run away with the victory.
  • Prior to Saturday, the Nittany Lions were averaging just 6.4 goals per game in the second half compared to 8.1 in the first half.

SCOUTING DREXEL

  • The Dragons come into this game 4-4 on the season and losers of two straight contests.
  • Drexel is shooting just 38 percent and have 79 goals on the season averaging 9.88 goals per game.
  • Drexel has four scorers with double-digit goals led by Nadia Pelham-Lacey and Devin Nihill with 19 and 17, respectively. Pelham-Lacey has added 13 assists for 32 points to lead the team while Nihill has 22 points as the only players with 20-plus points at this point in the season.
  • Carlee Ries has started all eight games between the pipes and has a 9.45 goals against average and a .426 save percentage on the season.
