Midweek Mania
The Nittany Lions are 2-2 in midweek games this season, with wins at home over Bucknell and Cornell. Their losses have come on the road at UC Davis (3/8) and at Pitt (4/4). The Lions went
10-2 in midweek games last season, only dropping both games of a home-and-home series with Kent State.

Home Sweet Home
The Nittany Lions are in their 11th season in Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, where they hold a 137-89 all-time record and are off to a 5-4 start this season. In 2016, Penn State won a facility record 10 consecutive games last season en route to totaling 15 wins, its most since 2008. The Lions enjoyed their seventh winning mark in the park and hosted two of the 11 largest crowds in program history. Penn State is in the midst of playing five consecutive home games in four days.

Bates at the Start
RHP Schuyler Bates has been effective in his first two career starts against Cornell (3/29) and at Pitt (4/4), leaving with the lead in both and posting a 1.59 ERA. He has totaled 11 1/3 innings in each and yielded just three runs (two earned) on seven hits with two walks. Hitters are batting .175 against him and he has struck out three.

Power Bump
Penn State has already matched its 2016 season total for home runs with 16. A total of 15 have come on the road. Conlin Hughes hit the first Nittany Lion home run at home against Ohio State (4/9). Penn State's 10 home runs in the first 14 games of the season were its most since at least 2002.

Youth Movement
The average Nittany Lion starter this season is a sophomore, as the average class year (Freshman = 1 ... Senior = 4) across all 10 positions through 30 games is 2.10. On the mound the Lions are averaging 2.13 years of experience as compared to 2.10 at the plate. For the 2016 season, the Lions averaged 2.25 years in the starting lineup with a youthful 1.96 on the mound and a deceptive 2.49 at the dish as the Lions started two to five freshmen per game.
Penn State only has three upperclassman position players on the roster.

All-Time vs. Binghamton
Penn State and Binghamton will meet for the third time since first meeting in 2012, with the Nittany Lions winning both previous meetings. Last season, the Lions won by a score of 5-2 at home.

Scouting Binghamton
Binghamton is 12-6 this season with the weather being particularly unkind to the Bearcats, forcing the cancelation of eight games. The Bearcats assembled an early season nine-game winning streak with two wins over Toledo, a win over Richmond and a four-game sweep at then-No. 19 Virginia Tech, and they have won 12 out of their last 15, including a 12-0 shutout of mutual opponent Bucknell. Sophomore infielder Justin Yurchak ranks 20th in the nation with a .500 on-base percentage, and he leads the team with a .380 batting average. Binghamton also sports a team ERA of 3.40, which ranks 20th in the NCAA and first in the America East Conference.
