UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; April 13, 2017- The Penn State women's tennis team travels for the final time of the season this weekend when they take on Northwestern and Illinois. The match against the Wildcats is scheduled for 5:00p.m. ET on Friday night. Sunday's Big Ten rivalry is set to begin at 12:00p.m. ET.
Coach Cagle on this weekend's matchups
"It is a quick turnaround for us as we are back on the road to Northwestern and Illinois this weekend," said head coach Chris Cagle. "We have been putting ourselves in positions to finish off sets and matches so we need to keep working for the payoff when we have these opportunities. I look forward to a weekend of good tennis from our team"
Scouting Northwestern
Northwestern is ranked at no. 36 with an 11-8 record on the season. Holding an undefeated 7-0-conference record, the Wildcats have won their last six contests. They enter the weekend tied for first place in the Big Ten next to Michigan and Ohio State.
Scouting Illinois
Illinois currently holds an 11-10 record. They are on a two game winning streak. The fighting Illini sit a 5-2 in the Big Ten. Top singles competitors are D. Pedraza Novak (17-11), Madie Baillon (13-7) and Jaclyn Switkes (13-10).
Looking ahead
The Nittany Lions close out the regular season next weekend when they take on Purdue on Friday, April 21 and Indiana Sunday, April 23.
