UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -The Penn State men's golf team sits in a tie for third place with Eastern Michigan at 13-over heading into the final round of the 2017 Rutherford Intercollegiate in University Park, Pennsylvania.

ROUND 1

After one round of play, the Lions were alone in second after a 9-over opening round was bested only by the Hoyas of Georgetown who shot a 1-over 293 to lead the field.

Freshman Ryan Davis (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) sat tied for fourth at even par after his opening round of the day with junior Cole Miller (New Tripoli, Pa.) and sophomore Charles Huntzinger (Duluth, Ga.) two strokes behind at 2-over putting them in a tie for 15th.

Senior Christian Elliott (Port Perry, Ontario) shot a 5-over 76, good for 44th, while sophomore JD Hughes (Carlisle, Pa.) shot 8-over and in a tie for 62nd.

ROUND 2

The Blue and White bested their opening round score by five strokes, but fell in the standings into a tie for third with Eastern Michigan.

Ryan Davis again led the way with a 2-under 69 and now sits in a tie for second place paced by his par-4 scoring which ranks tied for the field lead at -3.

JD Hughes was aided by a difficult chip that he holed on the par-5 ninth hole for eagle en route to a 1-over 72. Hughes sits in a tie for 46th a 9-over, but has carded one of the field's four eagles.

Charles Huntzinger was able to rattle off a second consecutive 73 in round two to finish at 4-over and in a tie for 16th place with 18 holes left to play. Christian Elliott was two shots better his second time round with a 74 and is in a tie for 41st. Cole Miller shot a 76 on his second round and sits in a tie for 34th at 149.

Alec Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) heads the top of the list of three Nittany Lion individuals competing in the tournament. Bard shot an opening 73 and followed up with a 76, identical to Miller's scores, to sit tied with his teammate in 34th.

Connor Raeman (Canandaigua, N.Y.) rebounded after an opening 79 to shoot a 71 on round two and sits in a tie for 41st with Elliott. Cody Cox (Milford, Pa.) shot a 79 and 88 on day one of competition.

Ahead of the Lions on the team leaderboard are Georgetown (+1), Ohio (+12) and tied is Eastern Michigan (+13).

Ohio's Peyton White leads the field at 5-under with a trio of Ryan Davis, Jack Musgrave (Georgetown) and Jacob Johnson (Oakland) all three strokes behind at 2-under.

Final round action will see the Lions paired with student athletes from Oakland and West Virginia with tee times beginning at 8:50am.
