ANN ARBOR, Mich. ââ'¬" No. 22 Michigan used a pair of big innings to erase an early Penn State lead, 14-1, in Big Ten baseball action Sunday in Ray Fisher Stadium.

Penn State (10-16, 0-3 Big Ten) scored in the top of the first inning, but Michigan (22-6, 4-2 Big Ten) did not look back after scoring five runs in the bottom half.

Michigan LHP Michael Hendrickson (3-0) struck out eight in six innings and did not allow a hit after the second, yielding just the one run on three hits and a walk for the day. Designated hitter Nick Poirier and right fielder Jonathan Englemann both had three-hit games with an RBI, while Poirier also had a game-high three runs and added a double. Third baseman Drew Lugbauer and left fielder Miles Lewis both doubled once and drove in two each.

Centerfielder Jordan Bowersox (Winter Springs, Fla.) singled, stole second and scored on a single up the middle by first baseman Willie Burger (Lancaster, Pa.) for an early 1-0 lead for the Nittany Lions, but the Wolverines more than answered in the bottom half. Second baseman Ako Thomas manufactured a run by getting hit by a pitch advancing on an error and fly out and then scoring on a wild pitch. Lugbauer and Lewis hit back-to-back doubles to add a run each, and then after a pitching change, Poirier and Engleman hit RBI-singles on the first two pitches.

Michigan added runs on sacrifice flies in the third, fourth and sixth innings, and put the game out of reach in the fifth with a six-run inning. Lugbaurer highlighted the frame, clearing the bases with the double and the help of a fielding error.

Penn State will next travel to Pitt Tuesday for a 6 p.m. game.
