ââ'¬" The Penn State men's golf team finished up day one of the Kepler Intercollegiate in a tie for sixth place with Ball State after a 36-hole score of 605 on the Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.

Round One

The Lions sat alone in fourth place after a 15-over round of 299, five strokes behind leader Kent State in the opening round of the Kepler Intercollegiate.

Sophomore JD Hughes (Carlisle, Pa.) led the way with a 2-over round that placed him in a tie for seventh, while fellow sophomore, Charles Huntzinger (Duluth Ga.), ended the opening round in a tie for 16th after a 4-over, 74.

Junior Cole Miller (New Tripoli, Pa.) and freshman Alec Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) both finished at 5-over and tied for 35th, while freshman Ryan Davis (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) shot an 85.

Trailing Kent State was Ohio State who was three strokes behind and Illinois at four strokes behind the leaders before the Lions.

Round Two

The Blue and White shot a second round score of 307, which was paced by Miller's and Huntzinger's rounds of 76. Huntzinger enters the final round tied for 25th place, while Miller sits one stroke behind tied for 32nd.

Ryan Davis shot his best round of the day, a 77, putting his score at 162 and in 74th place with 18 holes left to play. Hughes is one stroke ahead of Miller at 151 after his second round of 78 and Alec Bard stands in a tie for 48th place with a 156.

The Lions will begin teeing off from the first hole at 8:00am Sunday morning with student athletes from Miami (OH) and Eastern Michigan.
