UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The Nittany Lion men's golf team sits in sixth place after a second round score of 10-over places them at 17-over for the Big Ten Championships in Baltimore, Maryland.
Only one of three teams with two individuals in the top-10, the Lions' junior Cole Miller (New Tripoli, Pa.) and sophomore Charles Huntzinger (Duluth, Ga.) both shot even par rounds to lead the way for the Blue and White.
Miller sits at even par in a tie for fifth place at 140. His birdie on 18 was the only one scored by the field on the closing field as it played as the toughest hole on the day. Huntzinger added a 70 to his first round score of 71 and sits in a tie for seventh place heading into the final round at 1-over.
Sophomore JD Hughes (Carlisle, Pa.) shot his second consecutive 3-over, 73 to and is currently in a tie for 33rd. Freshman Ryan Davis (Berkeley Heights) and senior Christian Elliott (Port Perry, Ontario) shot 83 and 77, respectively. Davis is tied for 64th at 164 and Elliott sits one stroke behind in 67th.
Illinois maintained its lead throughout the second round and leads second-place Purdue and Northwestern by 20 strokes at 548. Wisconsin is fourth at 572 before Ohio State at 575 and Penn State at 577.
Edoardo Lipparelli from Illinois surpassed his teammate Dylan Meyer for first place at 135, while Meyer holds second place at 136. Northwestern's Ryan Lumsden and Indiana's Jake Brown sit at 2-under and 1-under, respectively before Miller.
Penn State tees off beginning at 8:00 a.m. with golfers from Ohio State and Wisconsin.
