UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Ohio State overcame a first-inning Penn State home run to take the three-game series from the Nittany Lions, as the Buckeyes earned an 11-2 victory to cap a Big Ten baseball doubleheader Sunday at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

A Conlin Hughes (Holly Springs, N.C.) home run in the first inning gave Penn State (11-19, 1-5 B1G) its only lead of the game. Hughes paced the Nittany Lions offensively going 2-for-3 with a walk.

Ohio State (14-17, 3-6 B1G) totaled nine hits from five different players and took advantage of four errors and nine walks. Third baseman Brady Cherry led the way going 2-for-6 with three RBIs and three runs. RHP Ryan Feltner (1-5) earned the win with three hitless innings, striking out two and allowing just two walks.

With Penn State leading 1-0, a pair of walks and errors resulted in two Ohio State runs in the top of the second. Senior catcher Alex Malinsky (Apex, N.C.) tied the game in the bottom half with an RBI-groundout after a single by right fielder Braxton Giavedoni (Punxsutawney, Pa.) and a double by catcher Brett Davis (Manhattan Beach, Calif.), but the Buckeyes scored three runs in the fourth to regain the lead and three more in the sixth to put it out of reach.

The fourth inning runs all came with two outs, as Cherry hit an RBI-single and right fielder Dominic Canzone followed with a two-RBI single. Cherry then doubled in the sixth to drive in the first of three runs in the frame, and the Buckeyes added two more in the eighth and another in the ninth for the final margin.

Ohio State won the first game of the day by 5-2, taking a heartbreaker from the Nittany Lions, who entered the ninth with a 2-1 lead.

Penn State will continue its homestand Monday and Tuesday, hosting Binghamton and Bucknell, respectively. Both games are set to start at 6:30 p.m.
