UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State track & field teams are set to compete in the NCAA Division I 2017 Outdoor Track & Field Championships - East Preliminary hosted by the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky. May 25-27.

Forty-five Nittany Lions are slated to compete this week for a chance to advance to the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. June 7-10.

NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS QUALIFYING

The 2017 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held June 7-10 at Historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. The top-12 finishers at the NCAA East Preliminary Round will advance onto the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Heading into this weekend, Penn State has 13 NCAA East top-12 performances, eight more than at this point last season.

NITTANY LION INFO

Forty-five Penn State track & field student-athletes have qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Round, with five Nittany Lions holding top-five performances in their respective events in the East Region.

The Nittany Lion men qualified 19 student-athletes in 12 events. On the men's side, Isaiah Harris (800-meters) Michael Shuey (Javelin) and Malik Moffett (200-meter, long jump) hold top-five marks in their respective events heading into the NCAA East Preliminaries.

Along with the 12 individual events, the Nittany Lion men qualified in the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays.

The Nittany Lion women will be represented by 23 student-athletes in 15 events. On the women's side, Danae Rivers (800-meters) and Tori Gerlach (3,000-meter steeplechase) hold top-five marks in their respective events heading into the NCAA East Preliminaries.

Along with the 15 individual events, the Nittany Lion women qualified in the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays.

Three Nittany Lions have qualified in multiple events, as Malik Moffett qualified for both the 200-meters and long jump, David Lucas will compete in the discus, shot put and hammer throw while Obeng Marfo is slated to compete in the shot put and discus throw.

Madeline Holmberg will participate at the 2017 NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. June 7-10 after finishing in the top-24 of the event. For combined events (Heptathlon and Decathlon), the top 24 declared student-athletes in each event based on their position on the national descending-order list are accepted directly into the Championships.

Penn State will also travel two alternates for the relay teams on the men's side. Anton Porter will travel as an alternate for the 4x100-meter relay while Sam Reiser will travel as an alternate for the 4x400-meter relay.

AMONGST THE BEST IN PROGRAM HISTORY
31 Nittany Lions have moved into the top-10 in program history with their performances on the track this season.

TRACKTOWN BOUND
The Nittany Lions have four individuals looking to return to the NCAA Outdoor Championships after making the trek to the west coast in 2016

Isaiah Harris finished the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Championships as a First-Team All-American with a fourth-place finish in the 800-meters and looks to make a return this year in his signature event.

Dannielle Gibson earned Second-Team All-American honors for her performance in the triple jump, finishing the meet in 11th-place

David Lucas finished as a Second-Team All-American in the discus with his 15th-place finish.

Tessa Barrett looks to punch her ticket to the big show this weekend after qualifying for last years outdoor championships in the 5,000-meters.

NEXT TIME OUT

The Penn State track & field program will travel to Eugene, Ore. for the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships June 7-10.
