UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's gymnastics team will have individual student-athletes compete at six different events over the 2017 summer season. Individual student-athletes competed at the Canadian Championships (Tyndall, Zakutney), Puerto Rico National Championships (Valdez), Central American Games (Valdez), U.S. Qualifiers (Howard), World University Games (Card, Tyndall, Zakutney) and the P&G Championships (Howard, Nedoroscik, Pantazis).
Wyatt Tyndall and Sam Zakutney kicked off the summer at the 2017 Canadian Nationals Championships in Montreal, Quebec March 27-28. Zakutney put up a strong performance with a third-place finish in the all-around, scoring a 78.900 and finishing second on the parallel bars. The Ottawa, Ontario native also placed seventh on the vault and eighth on the still rings.
Tyndall nabbed a fifth-place finish on the floor exercise with a 13.350 and tied for 11th overall with a 13.300 on the vault.
Favian Valdez will be the next student-athlete in action when he heads to the Puerto Rica National Championships June 9 in Carolina, Puerto Rico before traveling to the Central American Games June 25-July 2 in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
