BOLZANO, Italy
- Penn State rising junior men's diver Hector Garcia Boissier (Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain) earned a silver medal at the FINA Diving Bolzano Grand Prix in Italy last week in his final tune-up before the 17th FINA World Swimming and Diving Championships, set for Saturday in Budapest, Hungary.

Garcia and his older brother Nicolas represented their native Spain in the 3-meter synchronized dive, totaling a personal-best score of 388.26 to place second. The pair previously placed eighth at the European Diving Championships in Kiev, Ukraine, in June and also earned silver on their home soil in the Madrid Grand Prix in May.

"Hector thought the location, pool, and weather was awesome," said Penn State diving coach Dennis Ceppa. "Him and his brother had a solid competition and felt good. He thought it was definitely a great experience leading up to Worlds."

Garcia will not be the only Penn Stater at the World Championships, as alum Shane Ryan will be swimming for Ireland. Ryan, who competed for Ireland at the 2016 Summer Olympics, is slated to swim in the 100m backstroke (Monday, July 24), 50m backstroke (Saturday, July 29) and 400m medley relay (Sunday, July 30).
