BUDAPEST, Hungary - Penn State junior Hector Garcia Boissier (Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain) narrowly missed the finals as he placed 13th in the men's 3-meter synchronized dive Saturday morning at the 2017 FINA World Aquatics Championships.
Competing with his brother Nicolas for their native Spain, the duo totaled 372.30 points, missing out on the finals by 2.10 points as only the Top 12 advanced.
"They have much opportunity to improve as they continue to march towards their goal of a 2020 Olympic bid," said Penn State diving coach Dennis Ceppa. "I'm proud of Hector and his brother for working as hard as they have and for the tenacity with which the continue to do so. I believe the future is bright for this pair."
Garcia will not be the only Penn Stater at the World Championships, as alum Shane Ryan will be swimming for Ireland. Ryan, who competed for Ireland at the 2016 Summer Olympics, is slated to swim in the 100m backstroke (Monday, July 24), 50m backstroke (Saturday, July 29) and 400m medley relay (Sunday, July 30).
